We leave the city of Porto in the morning towards the city of Guimarães considered the cradle of Portugal, Guimarães offers us a magnificent historic center classified as world heritage by UNESCO (2001), knowing the corners of the European capital of Culture 2012, where you can enjoy the evolution of a city of medieval origin that maintains its authenticity today. Here, you visit Guimarães Castle, the birthplace of Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal. Continue the tour to the charming city of Amarante, rich in historical and cultural heritage, crossed by the Tâmega River and surrounded by mountains, this beautiful city proudly displays its 17th century houses whose colorful wooden balconies fade into the narrow streets. After lunch visit the 16th century São Gonçalo Monastery, as well as the lovely Roman Bridge. Your next stop will be at a world renowned ‘vinho verde’ vineyard and wine estate to learn more about this special grape and the production of the wine, ending with a tasting of the brilliant nectar paired with some local cheese! There will be some free time to enjoy the property’s beautiful gardens and specialties.
